Virat Kohli, probably the best batsman of current generation has played many match-winning knocks for his country in different conditions across three formats. The century against England in the first Test at Edgbaston couple of years ago (despite India lost the match) comes to our mind along with the 133 against Srilanka in Hobart as the most memorable knocks by him. For people it is difficult to pick one innings from so many as each of them played an equal important roles to secure victory for his team.

Virat Kohli's former Indian teammate, Gautam Gambhir along with Irfan Pathan and Ashok Dinda came to #BestOfAsiaCup watch along show on Star Sports and stated that the 183 runs against Pakistan is Virat Kohli’s greatest innings and probably the best by an Indian.

Kohli has played many important innings in his career but according to Gambhir the century against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2012 is his best as it came while chasing a mammoth total of 330 against the arch-rivals.

“Virat Kohli has played many unbelievable innings across the three formats, but this is one of his greatest innings from all points of view.” Gambhir said on Star Sports Connect.

He also stated that its is probably the best ODI innings by an Indian.

It was the fifth match of the Asia Cup 2012, Pakistan with the help of centuries by their openers Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed set a big total of 330 to achieve for the Indians. Gambhir himself got out for a duck. Chasing a mammoth 330 in Dhaka against a quality Pakistani bowling attack, Kohli scored 183 in just 148 balls and guided India to a six-wicket victory over the arch-rivals.

“First of all, we were chasing 330, then India was 0/1, and then scoring 183 out of the 330 runs, that too against Pakistan, and that time, he was not that experienced too.” the former KKR captain added.

In that match, Kohli had to come to the crease at 0/1 and had to face Pakistani experienced bowling attack which included Umar GUL, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi and Wahab Riaz.

“According to me, I think probably this is one of Virat Kohli’s greatest innings, honestly.” Gambhir further added.

Gambhir also highlighted the fact that Virat as a leader has a long way to go. He has a lot to achieve to be in the list of best leaders.

“It is a team sport. You can keep scoring your own runs. There are people like Brian Lara who have scored so many runs. There are people like Jacques Kallis who have won nothing. Virat Kohli at the moment has won nothing, to be honest as a leader. He has a lot to achieve,” said the former India opener.
